Thirteen security forces and 22 Taliban insurgents have been killed as a result of clashes in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Monday.
Mohammad Arif Noori, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the clash erupted when the militants attacked a security check-post in the Khogyani district late on Sunday night.
At least seven Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers, six policemen and six insurgents were killed, he said, adding three policemen wounded during the overnight firefight. The militants set alight the check-post as well.
Separately, Taliban attacked a security check-post in the Malistan district late on Sunday night. According to Noori, the militants faced strong resistance from security forces.
He added 22 rebels were killed and 15 others wounded in Khogyani and Malistan clashes.
On the other hand, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that 18 security personnel were killed several others wounded by the fighters during the overnight firefight.
