Civilians, military personnel among 63 killed in Baghlan clashes

Six civilians, eight security personnel and 49 Taliban have been killed during ongoing clashes in northern Baghlan province, officials said on Monday.

Nasrat Rahimi, spokesperson of the ministry of interior, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants numbering between 30 and 40 staged the coordinated attack in Kolup Madan area but met with strong resistance from security forces and were pushed back.

Public Health Director Dr. Muhibullah Habib, confirmed receiving eight bodies and 26 wounded from the sites of clashes. He told Pajhwok women and children were among the wounded.

Six bodies of the soldiers and another 20 wounded have been also brought to the hospital, he concluded.

On the other hand, police spokesman Javed Basharat, told Pajhwok that around 49 Taliban militants have been eliminated and another 31 wounded in the ongoing clashes.

According to Rahimi, 51 Taliban militants have been killed and another 31 wounded and 11 others arrested by security forces.

Six soldiers, seven civilians have been also killed and 11 others soldiers wounded in the clashes, Rahimi added.

On the other hand, the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed capturing dozens security check-posts and inflicting heavy causalities to dozens security forces in the ongoing Pul-i-Khumri fighting.
