Work on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline in Herat province is expected to be finalized within the next two months, according to Afghan officials.
Homayoun Afghan, spokesperson for the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, told Bakhtar News Agency that Turkmenistan’s state-owned energy company, TurkmenGas, has finalized the design for Herat’s gas distribution network.
He noted that the pipeline route through Herat spans roughly 153 kilometers, and construction on this segment is set to wrap up shortly.
Afghan added that once natural gas supply becomes available, factories in Herat’s industrial park will be able to utilize the fuel to power their production operations.
As one of the region’s most significant energy infrastructure initiatives, the TAPI project aims to transport natural gas from Turkmenistan across Afghanistan to Pakistan and India, bolstering regional energy connectivity and economic cooperation.
