The Russian Parliament has approved legislation that paves the way for the potential removal of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan from its list of banned organizations. This bill empowers Russia’s Chief Justice to propose the delisting of such groups.
The Federation Council is set to review the legislation on Friday, after which it will be forwarded to President Vladimir Putin for final approval.
This legislative move follows recent remarks by President Putin, who referred to the Islamic Emirate as a partner in countering terrorism. Additionally, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called for the removal of Western sanctions imposed on Afghanistan.
Analysts view this initiative as a significant step in bolstering Russia’s regional diplomacy and enhancing its ties with the Islamic Emirate amid improving relations with Central Asian nations.
