Leaders of the Islamic World Must Wake up and Not Rely on American Promises

The recent emergency meeting in Doha showed that the hearts of Arab and Islamic countries beat as one in sympathy with the pain and suffering of the Palestinian people. The collective reaction to Israel’s attack on Qatar and the ongoing massacre in Gaza sends a clear message: the patience of the Islamic world has run out and the era of silence must end.
The call at the summit to reassess diplomatic and economic ties with Israel is not merely a slogan but a demand for action. The Palestinian people have lived under oppression and aggression for decades. The time has come for the Islamic world to turn its relations into instruments of pressure so that Israel pays the price for its war crimes.
Doha hosted the message that an attack on one country is, in reality, an attack on the whole Islamic world. Leaders of Islamic states declared in unmistakable terms that no country can consider itself safe from Israeli aggression. This should shake the conscience of the entire world, for the blood of innocent people has been sacrificed to strategic games.
A unified stance by the Islamic world is now essential. Declarations and words alone will not suffice; concrete steps must be taken. Implementing economic sanctions, severing diplomatic relations, and taking a firm stand against Israel in international organizations are the measures that can stop the shedding of Palestinian blood.
But the time has also come for Arab leaders not to be lulled by foreign promises. Every American pledge must be tested by deeds—history has shown that diplomatic assurances can turn into isolation or domestic expediency. Arab governments must prioritise their national interests and the justice due to the Palestinian people, and they must not place so much trust in others’ promises that they sacrifice their independence and credibility. True support is the kind that holds the unlawful aggressors to account through political and economic pressure, not promises that sound fine in words but prove weak in action.
If the voice of the Islamic countries is turned into action, it will not only open a new window of hope for the Palestinian people, it will also send the world a clear message that further injustice will no longer be tolerated. The Doha emergency meeting should mark the start of a new chapter—one in which the unity of the Islamic world is translated into practical steps to achieve justice and lasting peace.
