The Carpet Weavers’ Union in Baghlan has reported a 20% expansion in the province’s carpet weaving sector.
Mohammad Arif, head of the Baghlan Carpet Weavers’ Union, told Bakhtar News Agency that 570 carpet production workshops were operating in the province last year. However, following the repatriation of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries, approximately 115 new workshops have commenced operations—reflecting the 20% growth.
He added that these workshops are primarily concentrated in the districts of Dahana-e Ghori, Dand-e Ghori, Doshi, and the outskirts of Pule Khumri city.
The union head further noted that locally produced carpets are of high quality, with a portion exported to international markets. He stated that depending on quality and type, each square meter fetches between $15 and $300 USD on global markets.
Arif also urged relevant institutions and Islamic Emirate authorities to provide greater support to weavers in order to further develop and strengthen the industry.
Meanwhile, an official from the Baghlan Department of Industry and Commerce corroborated the sector’s growth, affirming that efforts are underway to bolster support for weavers and broaden the industry’s reach.
