US’s West, Russia’s Kabulov Meet on Afghanistan

The US Special Representative for Afghanistan, Thomas West, in a trip to Europe and Asia visited Moscow to discuss Afghanistan with Russian officials.

West said that he met with Vladimir Putin’s special representative for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov and Russia’s Security Council deputy secretary Alexander Venediktov and discussed the shared interests of the US and Russia in Afghanistan.

According to West, they also discussed the need for the Islamic Emirate to fulfill the commitments they made to the international community.

“Discussed shared interests in Afghanistan and need for Taliban to fulfill commitments to international community,” West tweeted.

On November 8, West started his first trip in this role to Europe and Asia as the US special envoy for Afghanistan. He visited Brussels and consulted with EU and US allies on Afghanistan.

On November 12, West went to Islamabad and joined the Troika Plus meeting on Afghanistan.
