Ukrainian, Russian negotiators agree upon second round of talks

An aide close to the Russian President Vladimir Medinsky said that the Russian and Ukrainian negotiators in Belarus agreed upon a second round of peace talks in the coming days.

The first five-hour negotiations that occurred in Belarus on Monday, February 28, 2022, did not conclude in any outcome but agreement on a number of issues was given a green light by both parties.

Kremlin Spokesperson Dimitry Paskov said that Medinsky is representing Russian interests in the talks and is a top-level representative and an aide of president Putin.

On the other hand, Ukrainian negotiator Mykhailo Podolyak said that during the first round of talks that failed, they focused on a cease-fire that was not agreed upon. He added that the second round of talks will happen in a near future.

This comes as satellite images show that columns of Russian military vehicles getting 40 miles closer to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.

The Russian president Vladimir Putin in a televised speech on Thursday said that the Russian military has no intention of occupying Ukrainian territories but the operations were conducted following the request of separatists from the Donbas Republic.

On Monday, February 28, 2022, the defense ministry of Ukraine said that 5,300 Russian soldiers have so far been killed whereas 19 planes, 19 helicopters, and tens of other weapons but Russia has not commented on the claim yet.
