Three bodyguards of election runner killed in Kunar raid

Three people have been killed and two others injured as a result of a raid by security forces and an armed attack on supporters of two Wolesi Jirga candidates in eastern Kunar province, an official said on Monday.
Abdul Ghani Musamim, the governor’s Spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News the Special Forces conducted the raid on the house of Samar Gul in the Sharo locality of Narang district. Two persons were held by the forces, enjoying air support.
He said the Wolesi Jirga Candidate Qari Attaullah Safi’s residence was situated in the area. In a firefight, three of the candidate’s bodyguards were killed. The spokesman had no information whether the raid was conducted by local forces or foreign troops.
Qari Attaullah said his house was situated a kilometer from the main road. The road leading to his house is not yet asphalted. He said he was told to ensure the security of the road leading to his house.
Safi acknowledged security forces killed his three bodyguards during the operation. The security forces have not yet commented on the raid.
Separately, two comphainers of Wolesi Jirga candidate Bilal Sarwari were wounded in an armed attack in Khas Kunar district. Sarwari said his comphainers were slightly injured and were shifted to hospital.
Some suspected had been arrested in this connection, he said.
