Taliban have released more than a dozen Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) workers after abducting them two weeks ago in Badpakh district of eastern Laghman province, an official said Sunday.
Asadullah Dawlatzai, the Laghman governor’s spokesman, confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News the workers were freed by Taliban militant Saturday evening, after tribal elders’ mediation.
Attaullah Khogyani, the governor spokesman for neighboring Nangarhar province, also confirmed the power utility employees had been released and said efforts were underway to reconnect the broken electricity lines.
The DABS workers had visited the Badpakh district to reconnect broken power cables when they were kidnapped by the insurgent.
