Afghanistan’s Senate approved Tuesday the proposed 428 billion Afghanis national budget for 2020.

The plan includes 289 billion Afghanis for ordinary expenditures and 139 billion Afghanis for development purposes.

Finance Ministry said that it assured senators that their reforming views and recommendations on the budget would be taken into account in accordance with laws and resources.

It said that the ministry would soon present the budget proposal to the lower house of the parliament Wolesi Jirga for approval.

This comes as member of Woleis Jirga, the lower house of Afghan parliament, recently criticized the ministry of finance for its failure to submit the draft budget on time for approval.

They said the draft budget is sent to the parliament with a delay every year.

According to Article 98 of the Constitution, the government should send the following fiscal year’s budget to the parliament for approval in the last three months of every year and MPs shall approve it within a month.
