Meshrano Jirga on Tuesday approved two presidential decrees on obtaining $100 million loan for construction of Kabul ring road and Armak-Sabszadk-Qala-i-Naw road in northwestern Badghis province.
The Kabul ring road will start from Kabul square in Pul-i-Charkhai and will cover Kabul-Parwan square in Dehsabz district of Kabul, Maidan Wardak, Qala-i-Haidar Khan area of Paghman and Kabul-Logar square of Chaharasiab district and around Kabul city.
According to the Ministry of Finance (MoF), the Kabul ring road cost will be around $70 million and the Armak-Qala-i-Naw road in Badghis will cost $30 million.
Safiullah Hashami, deputy head of foreign affairs commission of Senate, told yesterday’s session that the two projects had been earlier discussed in the house and should be put for vote.
He said the two projects would help make strong the country’s transit and would benefit the country. He said the decrees should be approved so the Afghan government could obtain the loan.
Senate Chairman FazalHadiMuslimyar invited lawmakers to vote on the two projects and a majority of them voted in favor of the laws.
Earlier, Shamroz Khan Masjidi, MoF spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News in a telephonic conversation that loan contract of $100 million had been signed with the Saudi Arabia Development Fund in September 2018.
He did not provide further details in this regard but said the loan will not meet the projects’ works and the rest of amount will be paid by the Afghan government.
He termed the projects as vital for Afghanistan, saying that after approval of the loan, the MoF would discuss with the Saudi development fund to obtain the loan.
