Forty-seven Taliban militants have been killed and 41 others wounded during a clearing operation in the Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province, an official said on Tuesday.
The operation was launched by the Special Forces in Srabaghal and Container Bazaar localities of the district last on Monday night.
Police spokesman Zia Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News the Afghan Special Forces, with close air support, struck insurgent hideouts in the areas.
He said the ground-and-air operation — lasting several hours — left at least 47 Taliban fighters dead and 41 others wounded.
During the operation, six vehicles, 35 motorbikes and eight hideouts were destroyed. Durrani added the security forces suffered no causalities.
