A four-member Russian badminton team, comprising three athletes and a coach, has arrived in Kabul for a contest scheduled to start Sunday.
The team was invited by the National Badminton Federation in collaboration with the General Directorate of Olympic, Physical Education, and Sports.
According to a statement from the National Olympic Committee’s media office, the contest will feature 24 athletes from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Russia.
The competition will be held over three days at the 2,500-capacity gymnasium of the directorate.
One of the Russian badminton athletes said: “This is the first time we came to Afghanistan and traveling in a beautiful country makes us feel good. The reception of the athletes has fascinated us, and we only came to win; otherwise our participation in these competitions is pointless, and that’s why we will try our best to win the championship.”
Athletes in both junior and senior categories will compete for the championship title in this series of matches.
