Russia on Wednesday ruled out a military solution in Afghanistan, calling for a political solution to the conflict.
Currently on a visit to Tehran, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said the sole way to settle political problems in Afghanistan through political means.
Such an agreement must be supported by the international community, his spokesman quoted the secretary as saying in a chat with TASS news agency.
The secretary voiced Russia’s willingness for closer cooperation with Afghanistan and the other countries on countering illegal drug trafficking.
Patrushev, who is to attend multilateral consultations on a settlement in Afghanistan in Tehran, warned the IS (Islamic State) could repeat the Syrian situation in Afghanistan.
Delegations from Russia, Afghanistan, India, Iran and China are attending the consultations.
