The Council of Presidential Candidates on Monday called for cancellation of election and proposed “National Coalition Government” as a solution to the ongoing electoral and political crisis in the country.
Talking at a press conference in Kabul, members of the council said dispute over election results deepens and takes new dimensions with each passing day, offering “ National Coalition Government” to avert the crisis from further deepening, and focusing on national priorities of the country.
The council says their five-article plan can tackle the election gridlock, pave the way for political stability, trust revival and national unity.
Ahmad Wali Masood, a member of the council, told the presser that incumbent President Ashraf Ghani and his Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah, who run for second term, had turned the poll into an impasse, accusing them of sowing the seeds of discord during their five-year tenure than practicing national unity.
“The Independent Election Commission buried the poll; we need to try to prevent the process from a total mess and save the achievements of the past 19 years,” Masood said.
He said IEC’s decision on declaring winner of the September 28 election or holding the second round was not acceptable to the council.
Shahaab Hakimi, another presidential runner, said the National Coalition Government was critical to steer the country out of current deadlock, saying all political parties and figures will be included in the government, so the monopoly of power will end.
Murad Ali Murad, a running mate of the former chief spy Rahmatullah Nabil, said the current deadlock further distresses the public and the poll has no legitimate winner.
Calling the current situation of the country a full-blown crisis, Murad urged the masses to stand for their rights and support the proposed National Coalition Government.
This comes as IEC has not yet been able to announce the preliminary results of the presidential election that was held over two months ago on September 28 after several delays.
