US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and NATO commander in Afghanistan Gen. Scott Miller have conferred on the military campaign and efforts to promote the reconciliation process.
Pompeo tweeted: “We are working together with the Afghans and our NATO allies for lasting peace in the war-devastated country.”
Earlier in the month, President Donald Trump ordered the US military to begin planning to withdraw about 50 percent of troops from Afghanistan.
Currently, about 14,000 US military personnel are stationed in Afghanistan to train, advise and assist Afghan forces within the framework of NAO-led Resolute Support mission and fight against insurgent outfights.
