Pakistan extends stay of 1.3 million Afghan refugees

The Pakistani caretaker federal cabinet has approved the extension of the stay of 1.3 million illegal Afghan refugees till March 2024, local media reported on Saturday.

Pakistan has extended the period of stay of Afghan refugees at the request of the Afghan government, the stay of the refugees had become illegal due to the non-approval of the extension, local news channel GNN reported.

In October 2024, Pakistan warned illegal migrants to leave the country by November 1 or face expulsion.

More than 500,000 Afghans have returned from Pakistan so far.
