Pakistan has allowed transportation of Afghan goods to India via Wagah port, Afghan officials said on Sunday.
Khan Jan Alokozay, deputy of Afghanistan’s Chamber of Commerce, said that it was three days since Afghan fruits were being transported to India via Wagah port.
He emphasized on the importance of trade with India via Wagah port, saying it would increase Afghanistan’s volume of exports.
The official, however, said that transit duty was unfair as it was double the rate of last year.
Pakistan’s commerce minister is expected to visit Kabul for talks to resolve bilateral trade problems.
Meanwhile, Azerakhsh Hafizi, director of international relations at Chamber of Commerce, said that Pakistan was Afghanistan’s largest trade partner, but at the same time it has also created problems for Afghan exports.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that his country would not block Afghanistan’s trade with India and that Afghanistan’s trucks would not stop at Wagah port.
Nearly 45,000 tons of transit goods are exported to India via Wagah port, mostly fruits and medicinal herbs.
