The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said that more than 50 Afghan citizens who were imprisoned in Karachi and Peshawar prisons in Pakistan due to a lack of legal documents have been released.
According to the ministry, these individuals, who were imprisoned for 3 to 20 days due to a lack of legal documentation, returned to the country on January 2 through the Torkham and Spin Boldak crossings.
“Yesterday, 54 Afghan citizens who were imprisoned in Karachi and Peshawar prisons due to a lack of legal documents were released and returned to the country, “said Abdul Matlub Haqqani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation.
Meanwhile, some Afghan refugees living in Pakistan have complained about the problems and challenges they face.
“Afghan refugees are being arrested, are suffering, and are imprisoned. We call on the interim government to establish an organized program for the voluntary return of Afghan refugees from neighboring countries,” said Atiqullah Mansoor, an Afghan refugee in Pakistan.
“Our request to the government of Pakistan is to immediately stop the arrests and deportations of Afghan refugees, “said Mir Mia Khail, another Afghan refugee in Pakistan.
Previously, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation announced that 11,000 Afghan refugees are imprisoned in Iran and Pakistan, and the ministry is working to release these individuals and return them to the country.
