The National Procurement Commission (NPC) has approved In-principle the award of the contracts for gold and copper mine projects in two provinces in northern and northeastern parts of Afghanistan.
The Office of the President, ARG Palace, in a statement said the award of the contract for Badakhshan Gold Mine and Balkhab Copper Mine projects were approved in-principle during the last meeting of NPC chaired by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.
The statement further added that recommendations regarding the award of the two projects were presented to the meeting by the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum.
The meeting also decided to review the claims of DLA Piper Company in regard to the conflict of interest having links with the award of the projects, the statement added.
The claims of the company would be reviewed by the Integrity Watch Afghanistan, ARG Palace added.
No further details have been given in this regard in the statement released by ARG Palace.
In the meantime, ARG Palace said the meeting of NPC was also attended by the representatives of the budgetary and economic committees of the parliament, Integrity Watch Afghanistan, SIGAR, and the representatives of the Resolute Support Mission.
