Oslo could play a role in ending the conflict in Afghanistan, the US special representative for Afghanistan reconciliation said on Friday.
Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad, who recently visited Norway, tweeted: “Productive day in #Oslo yesterday. #Norway is a global leader in facilitating negotiations and can help #Afghanistan achieve peace.
“Briefed @NorwayMFA FM Marie Eriksen Søreide on our current efforts: where we are & next steps. I appreciate Norway’s willingness to assist,” the diplomat wrote.
Khalilzad recently visited Islamabad and New Delhi amid mounting India-Pakistan tensions over Kashmir.
The eighth round of US-Taliban parleys started in Doha on Saturday. Both sides believe their talks will lead to America’s troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.
