Afghanistan’s interior minister on Saturday refuted reports that the United States had decided to withdraw half of its troops from the war-torn country.
Speaking during 1TV’s Morning Magazine show, Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak said that withdrawing forces might have been discussed by Trump administration due to the ongoing peace talks with the Taliban, but no decision has been made in this regard so far.
He said that he contacted foreign colleagues late Friday, who reiterated that they would continue to fight along with Afghan forces and rejected reports of decision to withdraw.
Various US media outlets have reported that Trump has decided to withdraw 7,000 US troops from Afghanistan.
A spokesman for Afghan president said that the possible withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan would not affect the security situation of the country.
