Officials in Agriculture and Irrigation department of Nangarhar say farmers in the province will harvest 250 tons of lemon this year as the number of orchards of the sour fruit increased compare to last year.
Sami Ullah, Agriculture and Irrigation Director, says at least 700 acres of land is covered by lemon gardens in the province.
“Our estimate shows that from 200 to 250 tons of lemon will be harvested this year. We are also trying to create new orchards in districts whose weather and climate are suitable for the fruit,” he said.
A number of agriculture expert say that currently there are at least 10 types of lemon in Nangarhar.
Abdull Fatah Barakzai, in charge of agricultural research in the directorate, said:” There are at least ten varieties of lemon in Nangarhar, including three categories of citron, lime and lemon. We’ve shared our prepositions with the farmers to plant the right variety of lemon.”
