Pakistan on Wednesday rejected as ‘baseless and unfounded’ Kabul’s allegations regarding an insider’s attack in southern Kandahar province in which top security officials were killed.

Thursday’s attack was carried out by one of the governor’s guards, killing Kandahar police chief Gen. Abdul Raziq and the provincial intelligence chief.

Governor Zalmai Weesa was wounded in the attack that narrowly missed NATO and US forces top commander in Afghanistan Gen. Scott Miller.

President Ashraf Ghani, who travelled to Kandahar on Tuesday, condoled with the family of Gen. Raziq and later told a gathering that the assassination of Raziq had been planned in Pakistan.

He asked Islamabad to give the Afghan government the criminals in order to bring them to justice.

A statement from the Pakistani Embassy in Kabul quoted the Pakistani Foreign Office in Islamabad as rejecting such claims as baseless and unfounded.

“No hard evidence or intelligence related information has been shared to date with Pakistan to substantiate such claims,” the statement said.

The statement said Kabul should have invoke mechanisms under Afghanistan -Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Stability (APAPPS) instead of resorting to media blame game “which is contrary to the seven principles of cooperation agreed between the two sides earlier this year.
