ISIS recruiter nabbed in Kabul

The Special Forces of the National Directorate of Security have arrested a recruiter of ISIS Khurasan (ISIS-K) in Kabul, the Afghan intelligence announced Saturday.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) in a statement said Abu Obaidullah Mutawakil who used to work as a lecturer in a university and was also a prayer leader in Sheikh Mohammadiha Mosque has been arrested on charges of recruiting militants for ISIS Khurasan.

The statement further added that Mutawakil was arrested during an operation which was conducted in the vicinity of the 5th police district of Kabul city.

Mutawakil has so far recruited hundreds of youths in ISIS Khurasan ranks and has deployed them in Nangarhar province, NDS said, adding that 16 students of Mutawakil who have been arrested from different parts of Kabul have confessed that they were encouraged and recruited in ISIS Khurasan ranks by Mutawakil.

Ahmadullah, the second son of Mutawakil also joined ISIS group earlier this year and is actively operating in ISIS ranks in Nangarhar province.

According to the National Directorate of Security, Mutawakil’s nephew Asadullah alias Abdul Ghafoor had also joined ISIS and carried out a suicide attack two months ago in Kabul city.
