Iran’s special envoy and head of UNAMA meet to discuss Afghanistan

The Iranian Embassy in Kabul announced on Monday that Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Iran’s special representative and ambassador to Kabul, met with Roza Otunbayeva, the UN Secretary General’s special envoy and head of UNAMA to discuss joint cooperation in Afghanistan.

The Iranian embassy in Kabul said in a post on X that during the meeting, “there was a discussion and exchange of views on the joint cooperation between Iran and the United Nations for mine clearance, alternative cultivation of poppy and distance education”.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has banned the cultivation of poppy, and the United Nations and international organizations have emphasized the need to find alternative ways to ensure the livelihood of farmers.
