Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, arrived in Kabul on Saturday to hold talks with Afghan officials on issues around bilateral cooperation and peace, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed.
The ministry said Araghchi has met with met Edris Zaman, Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, and he will hold talks with Acting Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani as well as the National Unity Government leaders – President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah.
The ministry has not given details about the nature of the talks. However, Iranian media reports say that Araghchi will talk on the peace process.
Reports indicate that Araghchi held talks with Taliban in Tehran last week.
A senior Iranian official quoted by ISNA said on Thursday that Iran has held talks with Taliban in coordination with the Afghan government.
Taliban has confirmed their talks with Iranian officials in Tehran.
His visit comes amid increasing efforts for the peace process in Afghanistan.
