The Deputy Governor of Da Afghanistan Bank announced in a training workshop that the bank has eliminated usurious transactions in the banking sector and is committed to establishing a comprehensive Islamic banking system.
According to a statement from Da Afghanistan Bank, the Union of Turkish Participation Banks, a professional body promoting non-interest-based financial services, organized a three-day workshop aimed at enhancing the capacity of Da Afghanistan Bank’s employees. The workshop covers topics such as Islamic banking principles, risk management, Sharia-compliant financial products, and other related subjects.
Experienced instructors from the Union of Turkish Participation Banks, Dr. Saeem Kayadebi and Dr. Omer Farooq, are leading the training sessions.
The workshop was inaugurated by Sediqullah Khalid, the First Deputy Governor of Da Afghanistan Bank. Khalid emphasized the bank’s dedication to capacity building and learning from global experiences in Islamic banking. He stated that all banking transactions are now conducted according to the Hanafi jurisprudence, free from interest, highlighting the bank’s commitment to creating a fully Islamic banking system.
Khalid noted that transforming the banking sector into a completely Islamic system is a long-term process requiring consistent efforts. He further emphasized that experiences from Islamic and other countries could significantly facilitate this transition.
He urged workshop participants to fully utilize the expertise of Turkish specialists and effectively implement these insights in their practical work.
It is noteworthy that Sediqullah Khalid also held a special meeting with representatives of the Union of Turkish Participation Banks, expressing gratitude for their efforts in advancing Islamic banking. He stated that Da Afghanistan Bank aims to establish favorable relations with all international financial institutions and benefit from their experiences to further develop Islamic banking in Afghanistan.
