India has sent a shipment of 3,000 tonnes (metric tons) wheat to Afghanistan, a spokesman for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said.

Arindam Bagchi, a spokesman for the External Affairs Ministry, said on Twitter that Delhi has “successfully completed a shipment of 33,500 MTs of wheat to Afghanistan in partnership with WFP.”

India had earlier pledged to provide 50,000 MTs of wheat to Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, residents of Kabul called on the Islamic Emirate to provide aid in a transparent process.

“Those who really deserve the aid are not being provided with aid,” said Mohammad Sharif, a resident of Kabul.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock called for the distribution of the aid in coordination with the Islamic Emirate.

“It is mostly apparent to the government, where the aid is needed–rather than to those who assess it from abroad,” said Musbahuddin Mustayin, a spokesman for the ministry.

Meanwhile, shopkeepers in Kabul said that the price of flour has significantly increased this year compared to last year and that the donation of aid by foreign countries will cause a reduction in the price of flour in the market.

“One bag of flour is 2,600 Afs, while it was 1,500 last year,” said Zar Alam, a shopkeeper.

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Afghanistan will produce less wheat this year. The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) said it signed an agreement with the Russian Chamber of Commerce to pave the way for the import of wheat and fuel to Afghanistan.
