A US citizen was kidnapped in Kabul city early Sunday morning, officials have confirmed.

According to a senior government official, the man was abducted from outside his house in PD3 in Karte Char area early Sunday.

He said the man had been working on a World Bank-affiliated project for the ministry of agriculture, irrigation and livestock.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.

This comes after a Finnish woman was kidnapped in PD 7 in Kabul last month. She was working for a Swedish NGO Operation Mercy. She is still being held hostage.

In addition to this, two university professors from the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) who were kidnapped in August last year are also still being held hostage.

Another aid worker, an Australian, was kidnapped in November but she released in March.

Kidnapping has been on the rise in Kabul in the past year with dozens of Kabul businessmen also having fallen victim to syndicates that then demand ransoms in exchange for their release.
