The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Sunday announced starting re-tallying votes of September 28 presidential elections in its provincial offices, urging all stakeholders for cooperation.
The IEC in a statement called audit and recount of votes from problematic stations as one of the important issues after completion of work and comparison of NTC data with DAVE Centre and the biometric data received from Dermalog Company.
The IEC said it has made all necessary technical and operational preparations in Kabul and provinces during the last few days, describing the training of staff as successful in 34 provinces.
It said delegations to all provinces were assigned and deployed, technical equipment for recount and audit were packed in presence of monitors, observers and national and international media outlets and are being moved to the provinces.
The IEC once again assured the people of Afghanistan and all stakeholders of implementing the law and approved regulations and procedures and protecting people’s votes as a trust and distinguishing between clean and fraudulent votes. “The IEC leadership validates only those votes that are backed by biometric verification and which are valid according to the regulations and procedures of the IEC.”
The IEC also called on all stakeholders especially monitors, observers, media and presidential teams to monitor and observe the process of audit and recount at IEC provincial offices and support the commission according to the provisions of articles 9 and 10 of the Election Law and play a constructive role in the process.
After conducting the audit and recount at the provincial office level, the IEC will implement the results at the IEC HQ and will announce the preliminary results as soon as possible.
