A spokesperson for the Stability and Convergence ticket, the team led by presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah, on Saturday claimed that ‘circles within the Independent Election Commission are colluding with the State Building team (Ghani’s team) and are trying to organize a systematic fraud.’
Speaking at a press conference, Abdullah’s running mate, Assadulah Saadati, said that despite the team’s efforts to prevent fraud, the Election Commission’s work is ‘deteriorating.’
Saadati added that the guarantee for accuracy is the biometric device, and the only valid votes are those processed through biometric devices, but for the past two days, the IEC has been entering non-biometric votes into the system which violates the law as well as pre-election agreements.
Saadati called on the IEC to stop the process of entering data into the system.
“Some people in the Election Commission are trying to enter fraudulent votes into the system and yesterday we noticed that the process of entering the fraudulent votes in the system was underway and if this process continues our team will stand against any suspicious action,” said Saadati.
“We assure the people of Afghanistan that we will not let anyone violate the election law, including the commission, and if the commission follows the law, we will stand beside them and if they violate the law, we will stand against them,” said Saadati.
Saadati also called on the IEC to stay impartial in the election process.
“There are signs that the Election Commission will not be able to maintain their impartiality and we ask for honesty and transparency from them,” said Saadati.
The Presidential Candidates Council warned on Friday that if non-biometric ballots are recognized as valid, the council will not accept the outcome of the presidential election.
Previously, the IEC has insisted that votes that are not registered in biometric devices will not be declared as clean votes.
