Yesterday’s twin bombings against Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan hospital in Kabul drew sharp reactions both inside and outside Afghanistan.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said the attack on civilians and medical personnel is a violation of human rights and humanitarian law.

“Attacks targeting medical personnel and civilians seeking treatment are violations of human rights and international humanitarian law. Those responsible need to be held to account,” UNAMA said.

Meanwhile, the EU delegation in Afghanistan also condemned yesterday’s attack, saying those responsible for the attack should be held accountable.

“The EU delegation strongly condemns yesterday’s barbaric attack on the military hospital in Kabul against innocent people. Medical facilities and civilians should never be a target,” the EU delegation said in a tweet.

Pakistan ambassador to Afghanistan Mansoor Ahmad spoke out against it: “Pakistan strongly condemns terrorist attacks near Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan hospital in Kabul today causing loss of precious human lives and injuring many people.”

Inside Afghanistan a number of political leaders condemned the attack.

Former president Hamid Karzai said yesterday’s attack was a crime against humanity and called for national unity among the people.

The Islamic Emirate spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said seven people were killed and five others were wounded in the attack.

According to Mujahid, Daesh was behind the attack and all five attackers were gunned down by Islamic Emirate forces.

On Tuesday two explosions occurred in front of the hospital in Kabul and then five gunmen opened fired and rushed inside the compound.

The attackers, according to Mujahid, were killed at the gates and inside the compound.

Daesh has claimed responsibility for the attack.
