Government to decide soon on turning Jaghori into province: Ghani

Visiting Bamyan province on Saturday, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said that the government would decide soon on turning Jaghori district into province.

Jaghori is located in Ghazni province and shares border with Zabul province.

During Bamyan visit, which took place after touring Daikundi province, the president ordered the Independent Directorate of Local Governance to seriously implement promotion of Bamyan to 2nd grade province.

He ordered also creation of a special unit of intelligence forces consisting 443 members for Bamyan.

During the visit, Ghani also inaugurated construction of sixth phase of Doshi-Bamyan road, covering 25 kilometers.

The project is estimated to cost $27 million which is funded by the World Bank.

The president noted that Doshi-Bamyan is an alternative to Salang pass, which he said needs rehabilitation. He said that the road connects central Afghanistan with north-east and then with Central Asia.
