Afghan President Ashraf Ghani held phone talks with prime ministers of Pakistan and India on Monday.
Ghani and Pakistan’s Imran Khan discussed the latest stage in the Afghan peace process, according to a statement from Khan’s office.
Khan highlighted Pakistan’s “positive contribution” to the peace process, strongly stressing that peace in Afghanistan was of paramount importance. He expressed the hope that the current momentum would be further built to implement the US-Taliban Peace Agreement in its entirety leading to Intra-Afghan negotiations at the earliest.
Referring to the various institutional mechanisms between the two countries, Khan highlighted the importance of working together to further strengthen bilateral relations and said Pakistan looks forward to the next Session of Afghanistan-Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS) at the earliest.
Khan informed President Ghani of the government’s strategy against COVID-19 in Pakistan with the particular emphasis on saving lives, securing livelihoods, and stimulating economy.
In his call with India’s Narendra Modi, Ghani thanked him for timely supply of food and medical assistance to meet Afghan requirement, according to a statement from Modi’s office.
Modi reiterated India’s commitment to the people of Afghanistan in their quest for a peaceful, prosperous and inclusive Afghanistan. The two leaders also exchanged views on the evolving security situation in the region and other areas of mutual bilateral interest, according to the statement.
