Disabled people in Balkh called for a review of the decision of the interim government to halt activities of the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan.
Sayed Mohammad Yazdan, a disabled person, told TOLOnews that the suspension of the Swedish Committee activitees will affect disabled people in the country.
“The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan helps 7 categories of people with disabilities. Closing it (Swedish Committee for Afghanistan) will affect all aspects of the society,” he said.
“These organizations have launched beneficial programs to help disabled people over the past four decades,” said Alif Khan, a member of the disability rights network.
The Islamic Emirate on Tuesday suspended all Swedish activities in Afghanistan in reaction to a Swedish citizen burning the Quran.
Meanwhile, the head of the department of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs in Balkh, Jan Mohammad Hekmat, said that they will adhere to the decision of the Islamic Emirate.
“We ensure all the disabled people and say not to worry. We will follow up everything which is ordered,” he said.
Earlier, an Iraq-born Swedish citizen tore a copy of the Quran and lit it on fire outside the Stockholm Central Mosque.
Islamic Emirate spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid issued a statement last week, saying that the Islamic Emirate in reaction to the burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden has stopped the activities of all institutions of this country in Afghanistan, and until this country apologizes to Muslims, its activities in Afghanistan will be stopped.
