President Ashraf Ghani has decreed the appointment of former Interior Minister Mohammad Omar Daudzai as his special regional envoy for developing consensus on peace and as secretary of the High Peace Council (HPC).

The presidential order says Mohammad Omar Daudzai is appointed as special presidential advisor on regional affairs for developing consensus on peace and as secretary of the HPC under Article 64, Clause 13 of the Constitution.

A separate presidential decree under the same Article says an additional post of special presidential envoy in regional affairs for developing peace consensus is created and Omar Daudzai appointed on the post.

The presidential order says Daudzai would be participating in the National Security Council’s meetings on regional matters related to peace process.

A day earlier, Pajhwok Afghan News broke the story of Daudzai being appointed as secretary of the HPC.

Daudzai was the first politician who explicitly expressed his willingness to run for the 2019 presidential election.
