Cold snap in Logar leaves 5 dead including women

At least five people have been killed, including two women, as a result of harsh weather in central Logar province, an official said on Monday.

Provincial Council’s Deputy Chairman Adalat Abdul Rahimzai told Pajhwok Afghan News five members of two families lost their lives due to cold weather on Monday night.

He said two women, one child and two elderly individuals were among the dead.

He said the dead were Afghan refugees who had returned from Pakistan and were living in a refugee township. Since their living place was not appropriate, they were facing many hardships.

Obaidullah, an inhabitant of the refugee township, told Pajhwok the families had no arrangement heat their homes.

“We came to know that five people have died due to harsh cold weather conditions,” the inmate added.

Deedar Lawang, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the deaths from a cold snap in the province.

“The provincial disaster management authority has been tasked with providing immediate assistance to the affected families,” he added.
