China’s new ambassador to Afghanistan Wang Yu on Monday reiterated his country’s support for Afghan-owned, Afghan-led peace process, hoping that the conflict and violence in the country will be resolved by peaceful means.

Talking at press conference in Chinese Embassy Compound in Kabul, Yu said the ongoing war in Afghanistan is in nobody’s interest, stressing that the only way that can salvage Afghans from the scourge of violence is peace talks.

Yu said his country, the second biggest economy in the world, was ready to continue helping Afghanistan in the reconstruction process.

“Despite the fact that over 20 million Chinese citizens still live in poverty, Beijing is committed to support the Afghan friends in this critical juncture of their history to reach sustainable peace and stability,” Yu said.

He said China wanted to have relations based on mutual respect and cooperation with Afghanistan, adding that Beijing has never interfered in Kabul’s internal affairs.

“It has been two weeks since I took over as ambassador and met with a number of Afghans who considered China as a good neighbor to Afghanistan,” Yu said.

He reiterated China’s willingness to host intra-Afghan peace to help Afghanistan put an end to the decade-long war.
