Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Abdul Aziz Kamilov met with Taliban’s deputy chief Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in Qatar capital Doha on Sunday evening, the group said.
The meeting comes as latest round of peace talks between the United States and the Taliban are ongoing in Doha.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, in a statement said that the group’s delegation also met with visiting Uzbekistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Ismatullah Irgashev.
The Uzbek delegation offered support for Afghan peace and for economic development in Afghanistan, according to the statement.
For his part, Baradar said that the Taliban would welcome any step by Uzbekistan that would help peace and economic development in Afghanistan.
Uzbekistan government has yet to make comment on the meeting.
Uzbekistan has repeatedly offered to host peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
Last year, a Taliban delegation met the same officials in Uzbekistan during a five-day trip to the country, where the group said it discussed issues including transport and power lines and peace in Afghanistan.
