In Balochistan province of southwest Pakistan, a speeding passenger bus drove off a mountain road in heavy rain on Sunday, tumbling into a ravine, killing at least 19 passengers and injuring an additional 11, according to Pakistani local media.
When the bus fell into the ravine near Zhob district of Balochistan, it was reportedly carrying over 30 people and was traveling from Islamabad to Quetta.
According to Pakistan’s the Express Tribune, the accident occurred on Sunday morning, 3rd July, in Pakistan’s Balochistan.
The police officials have stated that “Rainfall and speeding led to the incident.”
Health officials warned that the number of fatalities could increase and that the injured were in severe condition.
Shahbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, also expressed his condolences over the tragic incident and extended his sympathies to the grieving families of the victims.
According to local media, deadly accidents are widespread in Pakistan as a result of poor road infrastructure, disobedience of traffic laws, and poorly maintained vehicles.
Last month, a passenger van plunged down a ravine in a northern district of Balochistan, killing 22 people, including nine members of a family.
