Peace will continue to elude the region as long as Afghanistan’s sovereignty is not accepted, says a senior leader of the Awami National Party (ANP).
Speaking on the Pakhtun Culture Day in Peshawar on Monday, ANP general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain called for stabilizing Afghanistan.
The global fraternity should not think of peace, absent serious and determined efforts for restoration of stability in Afghanistan, he said.
Hussain, a former information minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, urged Pakistan and Afghanistan to formulate their foreign policies in line with their national interests instead of protecting superpower interests.
Terrorism had affected generations of Pakhtuns, he deplored, calling for the revival of peace talks to give hope to the people of the region.
