Afghans Are Ready For Peace: Abdullah

Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah met with the US Special Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad in his office on Sunday and discussed issues around the Afghan peace process and welcomed the United States and Khalilzad’s efforts for peace, Abdullah’s office said in a statement.

Abdullah said in the meeting that he appreciates the US Special Envoy’s efforts for peace and assured him that the Afghan people and the Afghan government are ready for the process.

He also welcomed the consensus reached in the trilateral meeting between the US, Russia and China.

Khalilzad, meanwhile, briefed the chief executive on his recent trips and his meetings with representatives of different countries for creating an international and regional consensus on Afghan peace.

The two sides stressed on the basis of inclusive intra-Afghan talks, international and regional consensus on Afghan peace, joint counterterrorism efforts and continuing efforts for achieving peace in the country, the statement said.

Before his meeting with Abdullah, Khalilzad met with President Ghani on Saturday and discussed the peace process and stressed the need for intra-Afghan talks.
