The Afghan parliament on Tuesday approved the mid-year budget by removing four newly-established budgetary units, including the State Ministry for Peace Affairs.

The draft of the budget was sent to the Wolesi Jirga, the Lower House of the Parliament, last week but it was rejected due to “lack of balance” and addition of new budgetary units to the document.

The total amount of the overall budget after an addition to the mid-year budget has increased to Afs411 billion ($5.2 billion) from Afs399 billion ($5 billion) at the beginning of the current fiscal year, MPs said.

From the total amount, Afs297 billion ($3.7 billion) has been allocated for ordinary budget and the remaining Afs127 billion ($1.6 billion) is for the development budget.
