At least three people were killed and 31 others were wounded after an explosion targeted a ceremony of Farmer’s Day at a local stadium in southern city of Lashkargah city in Helmand, the spokesman for Ministry of Interior’s spokesman Nusrat Rahimi confirmed. He said the casualties might increase.
He said the explosion was as a result of two mines placed at the stadium.
Sources said the explosion happened in an area close to security and local officials, including the provincial governor.
A local official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that head of Directorate of Economy in Helmand, Mohammad Khan Nusrat, lost his life in the explosion.
Eyewitnesses claimed that at least seven people were killed and more than 10 others were wounded in the blast.
Taliban claimed responsibility for the explosion.
