In a meeting held recently, Mullah Mohammad Yousuf Wafa, the governor of Balkh, underscored the urgent need for improved trade facilitation with Uzbekistan. The meeting included the special envoy of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghan affairs, Ismatullah Irgashev, and officials from Surkhandarya, Uzbekistan.
Emphasizing the importance of neighborly relations between Balkh and Surkhandarya, Governor Wafa noted that as border provinces, both regions must work towards strengthening their ties. He highlighted the necessity of enhancing economic relations, addressing trade-related challenges, and providing essential facilities for traders.
Wafa expressed optimism regarding Afghanistan’s security situation following the victory of the Islamic Emirate, stating that this stability has created favorable conditions for cooperation across various sectors.
In addition to trade discussions, the Balkh governor called for the expedited construction and expansion of the Grand Imam Bukhari School, further indicating the focus on educational development.
Special envoy Irgashev reiterated Uzbekistan’s commitment to fostering stronger ties, emphasizing the vital role of economic investments and infrastructure improvements in the region.
The governor of Surkhandarya also expressed support for continued cooperation, assuring that Uzbekistan will play a constructive role in Afghanistan’s development.
Both officials shared proposals aimed at overcoming obstacles and facilitating trade, marking a step forward in the collaboration between the two provinces.
