The acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Mullah Hedayatullah Badri, has signed an agreement worth approximately 84 million afghanis for the extraction of lead and zinc in Bamyan.
The agreement was formalized with the head of Mohammad Baloch Azizi Mining and Processing Company for a mine located in the Asp Maidan area of Yakawlang district.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, the mine encompasses an area of 0.538683 square kilometers and is valued at 83.8 million afghanis. Notably, the agreement includes a provision for renewal after five years, contingent on the mine’s performance.
The ministry emphasized that all processing of the extracted minerals will be conducted within Afghanistan, a move that is expected to foster local industry and create employment opportunities for dozens of Afghan citizens.
This signing follows closely on the heels of another agreement, valued at $6.2 million, established between the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum and a Turkish firm for the Dara Noor marble project in Kandahar, indicating a growing interest in Afghanistan’s mineral resources.
