Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, visited the construction site of the Shurandam Cement Factory in Kandahar province yesterday.
According to the Economic Affairs Office, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund expressed satisfaction with the progress of the factory’s construction and provided necessary recommendations to the relevant officials regarding quality and timely completion.
The construction of this factory has been contracted to a private company by the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum. The project is currently progressing rapidly and is expected to cost around 8 billion Afghanis.
This factory will temporarily have a daily production capacity of 1,500 tons, which will increase to 5,000 tons in the future. Once the construction process is completed, cement imports will significantly decrease, and around 5,000 compatriots will be provided with direct and indirect employment opportunities.
It is worth mentioning that the Islamic Emirate has recently signed agreements with Afghan and foreign companies for the construction of the Yatim Taq and Logar cement factories.
