Colonel Mohammad Omar, the district chief for Rustaq district of Takhar, died in a magnetic IED explosion in Taluqan city on Monday, local officials said.
Jawad Hejri, Takhar governor’s spokesman, said the incident happened in front of the provincial police headquarter in Taluqan city at around 10am Monday morning.
He said the IEC magnetic bomb was attached to a vehicle and was detonated when police chief was in the car.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
